In dedication to Hana

"In memory of my mother, Hana, the Hana Legacy Foundation is dedicated to transforming lives through compassionate mental health support and holistic wellness services. We aim to foster resilience, break down stigma, and create a community where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued."

About Us

The Hana Legacy Foundation is a tribute to love, loss, and the power of remembering. Amal Mohamoud, Founder & CEO, established this organization in honour of her mother, Hana. It was born from a deeply personal story—one of strength, resilience, and the silent struggles so many face. Hana’s journey was one of enduring love and sacrifice, but like many in Black and immigrant communities, she faced mental health challenges in silence. Stigma, lack of support, and cultural barriers often make it harder for people to seek the help they need. Her passing left a void that could never be filled, but from that pain came a purpose: to ensure that others don’t have to suffer alone.

Her Name Is Hana Podcast

Hana Hussein Musa was more than a mother, she was the heart of our family, a source of endless love, strength, and warmth. She raised six children with patience, deep faith, and a love that knew no limits. To us, she was Hooyo Macaan, our sweet mother, the one who made every hardship lighter and every joy more meaningful.

This podcast shines a light on the often over-looked aspects of mental health, sharing powerful survivor stories that inspire hope and healing. It offers valuable insights on resilience and the journey towards emotional well-being, encouraging listeners to embrace their own path to healing.

Hooyo

Hoo·Yo

In Somali culture, Hooyo means mother, but it carries a deeper meaning. Hooyo in Somali means both mother and home. When we say Hooyo, we are not just calling out to our mothers, we are calling our mothers our home, our safe place, our foundation. It is also why, as a term of endearment, they also call us Hooyo in return, because just as they are our home, we are also their home and their comfort.
