about us
The Hana Legacy Foundation is a tribute to love, loss, and the power of remembering. Amal Mohamoud, Founder & CEO, established this organization in honour of her mother, Hana. It was born from a deeply personal story—one of strength, resilience, and the silent struggles so many face.
Hana’s journey was one of enduring love and sacrifice, but like many in Black and immigrant communities, she faced mental health challenges in silence. Stigma, lack of support, and cultural barriers often make it harder for people to seek the help they need. Her passing left a void that could never be filled, but from that pain came a purpose: to ensure that others don’t have to suffer alone.
The Hana Legacy Foundation exists to spark conversations, break down barriers, and create spaces where mental health is embraced with compassion, not shame. While we are in the early stages of this journey, our commitment is steadfast—to honour Hana’s life by advocating for those still here, to bring awareness where silence once stood, and to make healing something everyone has the right to pursue.
Hana’s story lives on in every step we take toward breaking stigma, supporting those in pain, and ensuring that healing is a journey no one has to walk alone.
We are at the beginning of this journey and hope to grow into a trusted space for mental health and healing. As we take our first steps, we welcome collaboration, support, and shared efforts to make this vision a reality.
Our Slogan: Reclaim Your Story, Embrace Your Strength.
At the Hana Legacy Foundation, we believe in the power of owning your narrative. "Reclaim Your Story, Embrace Your Strength." is more than just a phrase—it’s a call to action. It empowers individuals to take back control of their journey, especially in communities where mental health struggles are often misunderstood or dismissed. Through healing, support, and self-empowerment, we strive to create spaces and communities where everyone’s story is seen, heard, and valued.

About Hana
Hooyo Macaan – My Sweet Hooyo
Hana Hussein Musa was more than a mother, she was the heart of our family, a source of endless love, strength, and warmth. She raised six children with patience, deep faith, and a love that knew no limits. To us, she was Hooyo Macaan, our sweet mother, the one who made every hardship lighter and every joy more meaningful. In Somali culture, Hooyo means mother, but it carries a deeper meaning. Hooyo in Somali means both mother and home…
